Position: Generalist Unreal Developer (Indie) - 6-Month Contract
Location: Ontario, Canada (Remote)
Type: Full-time contract (6 months)
Level: Intermediate to Senior
About the Game
We’re building Reply All — a roguelike deck builder where email is turn-based combat. You’ll craft emails using cards, chain together passive-aggressive combos, and survive the chaos of workplace communication. It’s a systems-heavy game with a strong narrative voice, blending strategy, humor, and painfully relatable office dynamics.
The Role
We’re looking for a Generalist Unreal Developer who’s excited by systems-driven design and collaborative problem-solving and learning on the fly.
This is not a siloed role. You’ll move between gameplay, UI, tools, and pipelines—supporting design, art, and narrative wherever needed. One day you might be implementing a card interaction system, the next you’re helping hook up UI flows or building tools to support content creation.
If you enjoy figuring things out across disciplines and making things work, you’ll fit right in.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain gameplay systems using Unreal (Blueprint and C++)
- Implement systems supporting deckbuilding, card interactions, and progression.
- Collaborate closely with design, art, and narrative to bring features to life.
- Implement UI using Common UI and input using Enhanced Input
- Build tools and workflows to support content-heavy systems
- Support and extend the technical art pipeline
- Debug, profile, and improve performance across the project
You should:
- Be based in Ontario, Canada
- Have shipped at least one indie game using Unreal Engine
- Strong experience with Blueprint and C++ in Unreal
- Solid understanding of OOP, architecture, and interfaces
- Comfortable working across disciplines (design, art, narrative)
- An indie mindset: proactive, adaptable, and willing to wear multiple hats
Nice to Have
- Experience with performance profiling and optimization
- Familiarity with Unreal plugin management
- Experience with systems-heavy or content-driven games
- Technical art experience (materials, pipelines, shaders)
Why Join Us
- Work on a unique, systems-driven indie game with a strong creative hook
- Small team where your work has direct, visible impact
- High ownership and collaborative decision-making
