We’re Qloud Games, an Australian-based indie studio with team members hailing from around the globe. We’re developing Loftia and looking for a Senior Game Designer!
Loftia blends the creative and cozy elements of beloved titles like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, with the vastly social and online nature of MMOs. It’s our vision to provide a space for players to find their sense of belonging, and work together with the community to work toward a brighter and more hopeful future.
For more information about the project, please check out our successful Kickstarter campaign and our Steam page.
About the Role:
As one of Loftia’s Game Designers, you’ll help shape the player experience by crafting game loops, gameplay features, and content. You’ll wear many hats and be an advocate for high-quality experiences in Loftia’s many axes of gameplay — working alongside the game director, lead designer and project leads in building a captivating product while conveying Loftia’s core themes of coziness, community and sustainability.
Responsibilities:
- Content Design: Research, explore, and write briefings for items, resources, furniture & clothing themes, as well as NPCs & locations, with the ultimate goal of creating immersive open maps and engaging gameplay loops.
- System Design: Design and write detailed specifications for features of different sizes and focus — from core gameplay actions to wider social and progression features. Work on evergreen features that will entertain the players for a long time.
- Implementation: Collaborate with other departments to ensure correct implementation of content and systems briefed by you and your team. Work in our config tools in Unreal 5 to set up items and adjust timings, balancing, and behaviors (no coding required).
- Processes and communication: Follow the design team’s processes to always work with our best possible options. Communicate your reasoning clearly in oral, written, and visual forms to make the path clear to all your teammates.
- Collaboration and feedback: Work closely with fellow game designers and other teams to solve problems and execute on ideated solutions. Always listen to feedback from the wider team and the player community, adapting as necessary.
Requirements:
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a Game Designer on one or more released games that showcase your design skills.
- Appreciation for cozy games: Either as a player or a developer, you’ve been in the weeds of farming, gathering and crafting, and believe in making a game without conflict at its core.
- Independence and proactivity: Self-motivated, with a hunger to learn and the ability to take ownership of tasks to deliver high-quality designs with minimal supervision. An eye for small details and the desire to release a great game and to put in the work for it.
- Critical thinking: Strong analytical skills to solve design challenges and iterate on content and features. Ability to make decisions based on a combined understanding of both the game development perspective and the player perspective.
- Organization and communication: Strong communication skills and the desire to work with team members at all levels. Ability to give and receive feedback, work collaboratively, and maintain clear and organized documentation and processes.
- Strong Bonuses (not required): Economy design, level design, quest design, and coding skills.
Employment Details:
- Engagement type: Full-time
- Contract type: Employment (Australia) or long-term contract (non-Australian)
- Benefits: Standard annual leave days, stock option plan
- Location: Fully remote. Candidate must be willing to align with an Australian, North American, or South American timezone
- Start date: As soon as possible
- Salary: Competitive market rates – based on experience and location
