Remote

We're looking for an experienced game programmer to build our top-down, 2D prototype in TypeScript using a new, unreleased game engine. This is a part-time position for 6-12 months. Our company is fully remote, but overlap with the four main US timezones is preferred.

The primary focus of this role will be working with our team to create and iterate on our game's prototype. We would like to get something up and running quickly so we can test mechanics and find the fun. We have a full Game Design Document, a simple prototype, and concept art to guide us, but our goal is rapid iteration so that we can flesh out the game while testing it. Even though we have a playable prototype in Unity, this project will be starting from scratch in the aforementioned unreleased game engine.

While the unreleased game engine is new, it should feel familiar to anyone with experience in Unity, Godot, etc. You'll be asked to meet regularly with the game engine's team to give them feedback and discuss progress, and access to the game engine's source code will be provided. You'll also be in direct contact with the game engine's development team who can answer any questions you have about using this new tool.

We're looking for someone with great communication and organizational skills who's also a gamer with great taste. We would love to hear your ideas and opinions about the game, and tap into your gaming experience to help inform our gameplay. As the sole developer you'll have to manage your own schedule and day-to-day.

Qualifications

  • You're able to rapidly bring ideas to life in an engine like Unity, Godot, etc.
  • You've worked on shipped games before.
  • You are a lifelong gamer who dreams in pixels and hitboxes.
  • You're comfortable working remotely using a combination of Discord, video chat, email, and project management software (Monday, Trello, etc).
  • You're comfortable in an environment where requirements change rapidly.
  • You're comfortable writing code alone, without code review.
  • You are great at independently managing your time and projects.
  • You can type fast.
  • Fluent in English, great communicator.
  • Bonus: Working in one of the 4 main US timezones.
  • Bonus: Fan of sci-fi and space games.
