Skymap Games is hiring a Senior Unreal Engineer to join our family of studios. Senior Engineers work collaboratively across teams to deliver high-quality projects to industry partners and help develop Skymap’s original titles. This role is ideal for experienced developers who are looking to contribute meaningfully to game features and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop gameplay systems for a whimsical multiplayer action game.
  • Design, implement, and maintain production-quality features with a focus on player experience and long term project sustainability.
  • Provide perspective on architectural decisions for complex game features and collaborate with other developers to iterate towards the ‘fun’.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers in the development of performant and scalable systems
  • Communicate cross-functionally to ensure engineering work aligns with design goals and project needs
  • Proactively identify technical risks and work to resolve them efficiently

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional game industry programming experience
  • Deep experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5
  • Strong C/C++ skills with deep understanding of data structures, memory management, and performance optimization
  • Proven ability to develop and iterate on complex gameplay systems with real-time interactivity
  • Comfortable owning major feature development from initial design through implementation and polish
  • Able to clearly communicate technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong debugging skills and familiarity with performance profiling tools
  • A commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and mentorship abilities

Pluses

  • Experience with Unreal UMG and Blueprints for feature prototyping
  • Understanding of networking as it relates to gameplay and replicated gameplay systems
  • Background in working with distributed, fully remote teams
