We are seeking a talented VFX & Amplify Shader Artist to help bring our indie multiplayer game, Hyde’s Haunt & Seek, onto Steam Early Access. You’ll be working directly with a small development team to create particle systems to enhance game’s mood and feedback, as well as develop shaders in the Amplify Shader Editor.

For more info on the game, please visit Hyde's Haunt & Seek on Steam.

Responsibilities

As we approach our Early Access release, we have a growing list of particle effects, post-processing effects, and shader tasks we need help with. Our core shaders are written using Amplify Shader Editor.

We’d like to talk with applicants to discuss more specifically the scope of work, but some examples of the kind of things we currently need help with include:

  • Full Screen effects when characters take damage
  • Luigi's mansion-type flashlight cone shouldn't clip through things like it currently does
  • New Features and optimizations to our custom Master Shader, written in Amplify. This shader is applied to lots of stuff to allow us to do highlighting, etc. It currently needs a bit of work to properly support alpha clipping and more.
  • God rays, etc. in the environment
  • A "fog machine" look for ghost perspective
  • Improvements on ghostly particles
  • Other nifty particle effects we might need to make the game feel more responsive and polished (leveraging asset packs is totally cool with us).

To accomplish this, we’ll need you to:

  • Collaborate with vision holders, artists and engineers on the team to implement and integrate your work into the game.
  • Optimize effects for performance, as needed.
  • Proactively identify and solve technical issues and constraints related to VFX and shader development.

Requirements

  • Experience with Unity, Amplify Shader Editor, and VFX (either in the Shuriken or VFX Graph).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Great problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical challenges.

Preferences

  • Familiarity with Deferred Rendering and Unity’s Universal Render Pipeline.
  • Degree in computer graphics, art, or a related field.
  • Some working knowledge of C#
  • Experience working color grades, post effects, color LUTs, and tone mapping

How to Apply

If you’re interested, shoot an email to founder and Lead Engineer David Turpin. Please attach your resume (or a link to your LinkedIn profile), and make sure to provide a link to your portfolio page. There’s no need to provide a lengthy, in-depth cover letter - just a brief introduction is fine :)

Please note: We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
