We’re excited to welcome a Technical Game Designer to our small but passionate team! You’ll work side-by-side with programmers, designers, and artists to build systems, tackle problems, and shape mechanics that are fun for players. We’re a lean studio, so your ideas and contributions will have a real impact right from day one.
Must Haves
- At least 3 years of professional game design experience, especially with systems design
- Proven coding/scripting background (C#, Lua, Python, or similar)
- A proven history of taking systems from early concept all the way to post-production
- Strong understanding of core game design principles
- Comfortable communicating in conversational English
Bonus Skills
- Experience working in custom engines or unusual toolchains
- Familiarity with visual scripting or node graph workflows
- Comfortable working with Lua and JSON for content creation
- Hands-on engine work from the implementation side (integrating assets, features, or data)
- Background in sandbox, survival, or UGC-driven games
- Strong grasp of UGC workflows and how to design systems that empower creators
- Experience designing and balancing creatures or other gameplay content
- Confident with spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets) and using formulas for balancing/tuning
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement gameplay systems from the first idea to production-ready
- Write and maintain structured data (like JSON) and light scripts to support features
- Prototype and test mechanics to make sure they’re fun and technically feasible
- Work closely with programmers and designers to balance scope, cost, and player impact
- Write, update, and maintain clear Game Design Documents (GDDs) the whole team can use
- Document systems in a way that makes sense across design, art, and engineering
- Spot and fix edge cases so systems stay stable even under weird player behavior
- Help improve workflows and pipelines in a small, lean, collaborative team
Timeline & Compensation
- Start: ASAP
- Contract: Freelance / contractor, full‑time
- Probation: 3 months
- Rate: Minimum USD $45,000 per year (negotiable with experience)
- Location: Fully Remote in CET Core Hours
