We’re looking for a UI/UX Designer to help build a vertical slice of Last Call, a sci-fi bartending sim. The goal is to take a core idea, shape it into its most engaging form, and distill that vision into a 10-minute slice that captures the fun and shows what the full game could become.

Your job is to make that loop effortless to learn and satisfying to repeat. You’ll define the visual language of the slice with the artist, shape information delivery and onboarding with the designer and producer, and work with engineering to get the HUD and menus functional in-engine. You will be responsible for both the look and the feel of the interface, balancing clarity, accessibility, and emotional impact.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a compact UI system: layouts, typography, iconography, and interaction states
  • Wireframe and prototype HUD and menus in Figma, then guide implementation in-engine
  • Build onboarding flows and contextual prompts that get players to “first success” fast
  • Write clear UX copy and define specs for smooth handoff to engineering and art
  • Meet accessibility basics, including scalable text, contrast, and input prompts
  • Plan and run lightweight usability checks and turn findings into actionable improvements

Ideal profile

  • You have shipped a small game or vertical slice with full UI/UX ownership
  • You can explain your information hierarchy and show before-and-after improvements
  • You design clear icons and subtle motion that reinforce feedback without clutter
  • You’re comfortable running usability sessions and pulling actionable insights from them
  • You’re excited by how UI can shape narrative tone, especially in strange sci-fi settings

Additional details

  • Duration: ~4 months (Oct 1, 2025 to Jan 30, 2026)
  • Compensation: $60/hr, up to 180 hours
  • Location: Remote (US-based preferred for payment and logistics)
