Thirteen Games is looking for a passionate Senior Level 2D Animator to create fluid 2D animations that showcase the beautiful and immersive world of Nova Island to players worldwide. In this position, you’ll:

Salary & Location

• $80-$110k a year depending on experience level & availability

What you'll be doing

• Craft animations that bring the characters of Nova Island to life; collaborating with the design, art & tech teams to build a cohesive and consistent quality bar.
• Own the pipeline, vision and production of in-game character animation, cosmetics, vfx and ui animations as they relate to the aesthetic direction of Nova Island.
  • Strive to create efficient changes in processes and deliverable refinement as you visualize and develop animation features, pipeline and tooling.  
• Create VFX using particle systems in Unity for rewards collection, visual feedback indicators and various gameplay moments.
• Work with leadership to actualize the visual style, voice and personalities of the characters that inhabit our world.
• Familiarize yourself with our game’s backstory and lore, so that you may help imbue that history and identity into the personalities of the characters.
• Animate key 2.5D marketing art pieces that will be the face of Nova Island as we bring in thousands of new users over the coming months.
• Meet with the team daily and be active on our company Discord server.
• Manage your deliverables & workflow via our Notion database & productivity software.
• Support and empower other artists and animators, leading the charge as we build a culture of growth and learning.
• Play the game regularly to keep up with the latest changes, metas and character mechanics.

What we’re looking for!

• 3+ years experience making 2D Character & VFX animations for games
• (even better if experienced with live service games).
• Expert level 2D Character Animation skills
  • Must be experienced in Spine 2D or equivalent puppet based 2D animation software.
  • Experience crafting and implementing animations for game engines, particularly in Unity.
• Animation sense for weight, timing and style for Games 
  • Must know how to create snappy, responsive and rewarding motion.
• Ability to take underlying game mechanics and systems and express them through motion, personality and payoffs.
• Foundational background in traditional arts, lighting, creature / character design, and animation.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the principles of animation.
• Experience delivering content in games, with an emphasis on mobile platforms.
• Clean Asset management & organization skills.
• Confident artistic communication & critique skills
  • Ability to present concepts and ideas as they fit into the greater whole of the game design.
  • capable of taking quick feedback and adapting designs to an organic live service game workflow.
  • An understanding of animation’s role in the cycle of game development.
• Someone who:

  • Knows how to find the fun in the process of creation.

• You have experience creating live service mobile game animations.
• You have experience with Character Skins & Cosmetic swapping workflows.
• You have experience with VFX & Unity Particle systems.
• You are proficient in navigating Unity.
• You have experience with After effects animation & video production.
• You are capable of creating Game Art to meet the needs of an animation without the need for putting in a ticket to the original artist. 
• You’ve worked on a shipped & serviced mobile game title.
• You’ve played and enjoyed Nova Island!
