César Benítez is a solo independent developer creating RÉQUIEM: Light and Shadow, an emotional and artistic metroidvania centered on the duality of light/darkness, a world of living clay, and mechanics based on calm, empathy, and inner transformation.

The Project — RÉQUIEM: Light and Shadow

RÉQUIEM: Light and Shadow is an emotional metroidvania where the world changes based on how you play.

Every screen can remain “dark” or become “calm” depending on your actions, affecting enemies, platforms, routes, and narrative progression. The protagonist is a small being made of living clay, guided by its own floating consciousness.

This is an atmospheric, symbolic project — a unique experience about identity, emotion, and transformation.

The Role

I'm looking to hire a freelance Programmer (Unity / Godot / Unreal) for a short-term contract.

While I’m based in Madrid (CET), I’m open to candidates from anywhere, as long as communication is clear and async-friendly. I can work with both Spanish and English speakers.

Responsibilities

• Implement the 20-minute RÉQUIEM demo.
• Develop the Blind Mode vs Calm Mode system (flags, AI states, shaders).
• Create dynamic platforms, dual-state enemies, and a mini-boss fight.
• Integrate art, animation, and visual effects.
• Optimize movement, physics, and the “living clay” feel of the protagonist.

Requirements

• Proven experience programming 2D / 2.5D gameplay.
• Knowledge of animation systems, AI behavior, and state machines.
• Clear communication and structured code habits.

Bonus

• Experience building emotional or reactive gameplay systems.
• Shader or lighting experience for simple dual-tone scenes.
