We are a young indie game studio based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. We create fun and educational games, together, and we care about involving our communities during the development process of our games. We think this is essential for creating an outstanding game, they are the players after all! ✌️We are also an international team, so English is the company language.

Our Ideal Candidate:

A Full Stack Developer who likes to work on our realistic management game Horse Reality. With a community of 10k daily active players and on average a 100k monthly active players, we want a developer who takes ownership of the project and will become the lead of the (yet to build) team. You are assertive, a decision-maker and a pro-active member of the team.

Years ago, our founder made the game from scratch, mainly using PHP, jQuery, Javascript and MySQL. In 2020 we started transferring the game into the Laravel framework, which is still an ongoing process. You join meetings during the design phase of new features, ensuring our current stack and its limits are kept in mind. Once the design is ready, you complete the entire development process from start to release, while also writing the documentation.

You will start as our (currently only) Lead Developer, later on growing and leading our development team.

What you will do:

• Consider security, maintenance, scalability, and more when developing
• Testing and debugging
• Write clean code for both the front, and back-end
• Ensure cross-platform compatibility and optimization
• Communicating effectiveness of emerging technologies to decision makers
• Optimise our release-workflow to ensure the development and release process is streamlined and efficient.
• Lead the entire web application development life cycle right from concept stage to delivery and post launch support
• Keep an eye on new trends and best practices in web development

What we ask:

• 3+ years experience with PHP/Laravel.
• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar field. Or sufficient demonstrable professional work experience.
• MySQL profiling and query optimization.
• Experienced with unit testing, OOP, MySQL, HTML (5), CSS(3), (ES6) Javascript, Git, Linux, NPM.
• Experienced with front-end frameworks like Boostrap (or Tailwind CSS).
• Self-starter and a strong sense of ownership. Approaches challenges creatively and methodically, seeing them through to final results.
• A proactive outward attitude. Consistently professional, respectful, and approachable.
• A developer who comes to the office at least 2-days a week.
• You're a clear communicator who manages their time effectively.

A big plus, but not necessary:

• Dutch-speaking
• Cloud experience
• Background in gaming
