We are looking for a Level Designer to take ownership of the Level Design processes on our 3D turn-based JRPG.

You will build our level design approach from the ground up. That means early concepts and blockouts through to implementation, testing, iteration, and final delivery. We are not looking for someone who executes predefined layouts. We need someone who identifies problems, proposes solutions, collaborates across disciplines, and moves our levels forward.

Our process is highly iterative. We test ideas early, challenge them often, and improve them through playtesting and feedback. Being wrong is part of the process. What matters is learning quickly, adapting, and using each iteration to make better decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Own levels from initial concept through blockout, testing, iteration, and completion.
  • Establish and improve the project's level design workflows and standards.
  • Create spaces that support exploration, traversal, combat, narrative, and visual composition.
  • Prototype ideas quickly and validate them through playtesting.
  • Collaborate closely with Game Design, Narrative, Art, Engineering, and Creative Direction.
  • Communicate intentions, constraints, dependencies, and feedback clearly.
  • Identify problems proactively and take responsibility for driving solutions.

What We're Looking For

  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • An iterative and player-focused design mindset.
  • Comfort working with uncertainty and building processes from the ground up.
  • The ability to learn, adapt, and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Someone who is not afraid to make mistakes, discard ideas, or challenge their own assumptions.
  • Experience creating and implementing levels in Unreal Engine.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience working on JRPGs, RPGs, narrative-heavy games, or linear structured adventures.
  • Experience designing dungeons, overworld areas, towns, hubs, or exploration-focused maps.
  • Experience designing turn-based combat spaces, encounter layouts, and combat arenas.

What It's Like at Memory Ware

We're a small team building a game where story, systems, levels, and player experience shape each other. Level Design here means deciding how players move through the world, how they feel each space, and how the levels supports both gameplay and story.

We work collaboratively and iteratively. We share work early, talk often, and design together to make the game better. We value ownership, accountability, and building something worth remembering through a healthy and sustainable process.
