We are seeking a technical game designer to build the core loop of our co-op FPS in Unreal Engine 5. We’re building a compact, intense, wave-based co-op zombie shooter, inspired by Call of Duty’s Nacht der Untoten with a modern twist. This first phase of the project is a prototype to prove out the core gameplay loop.
Role Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Project Leads to shape the moment-to-moment gameplay loop of a wave-based zombie survival mode.
- Help refine design documents and production plans for game systems such as enemy waves, scoring, and co-op interactions.
- Prototype mechanics in Blueprints or C++, including weapons (shotgun + sniper), hit detection, scoring, and basic progression.
- Work with Unreal Engine multiplayer replication to ensure all systems function in co-op.
- Integrate and iterate using FAB / Marketplace assets (maps, zombies, weapons, animations).
- Identify when new tools or systems are needed and help define requirements.
This contract runs approximately
three months, part-time, with the possibility of extension.
Core Pillars
- Co-op Multiplayer (2–4 players): Revives, point earning, team collaboration
- Limited Weapon Focus: A sniper and shotgun with tight, skill-based, satisfying feedback.
- Arena-Style Map: One atmospheric, replayable location built with modular FAB assets.
- Wave Progression: Increasing difficulty, resource scarcity, strategic chokepoints.
The experience emphasizes
tension, teamwork, and precision. We have weapons, zombie kits, animations, and modular environment assets ready, now we’re focused on creating the first playable co-op prototype.
Required Skills
- 2+ years with Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5).
- Strong with Blueprints; C++ is a bonus.
- Proven experience working with first person shooters in Unreal Engine
- Familiarity with FAB / Marketplace asset implementation.
- Resume + portfolio or website showcasing relevant UE experience.
