About the role

The Engineering discipline at Wolfjaw Studios is the heart of our teams, focusing on developing and improving the features we curate for our client partners.

We're involved in almost every aspect of development you can think of, with a focus on backend development for online game services and integration of those backend systems into game clients/servers.

Whatever the calling, we find the solution that our audience needs.

As a Software Engineer, you will work with a team of producers and engineers assisting with the development of client features, creation of robust documentation, and collaborating with internal and external teams to deliver new and exciting features to our clients.

*This position has the opportunity to be fully remote, but for candidates local to Troy, NY a hybrid arrangement is possible.*

What we are looking for:

  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively within your team and with clients.
  • Experience with working in legacy codebases and being comfortable with exploratory work into the code base.
  • Experience developing games with C++
  • You have previous experience working with backend APIs and have experience with networking concepts.
  • You are comfortable working with a team in a version control environment (Gitlab, Perforce, etc.)

 

Qualifications:

  • You have experience working within the games industry with an understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience working with C++
  • Game engine experience, specifically with Unreal Engine or proprietary game engines.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills.
  • 2+ years of programming experience; can include but is not limited to paid, volunteer, project, and academic work
  • Critical thinking, with the ability to adapt quickly to change, communicate impact, and align with the new direction.

 

Pluses:

  • Proficient with REST protocols and sockets
  • Previous experience with netcode and state replication
  • Has written code previously for game consoles and is familiar with first party requirements for games
  • Has experience with UI design in Unreal/proprietary game engines
  • Experience creating content authoring pipelines for designers and other non-engineers
  • Experience working in Python (both 2.7 and 3 preferred)
  • Experience with C#
  • Experience with SQL
  • Exhibits learning agility; has the ability to think differently, and/or grasp and apply new skills and concepts.
  • Approaches problems in a clear, well-organized, and solutions-oriented manner.
  • Able to effectively communicate problems, solutions, needs, or priorities.

Engineering positions at Wolfjaw are full time (non-contract) W2, salaried roles. The standard base pay range for our C++ Game Client Software Engineer - Mid to Senior is between $80,000 - $110,000 USD annually, depending on level of experience and compatibility with our current needs.

This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
