About the Role

The Engineering discipline at Wolfjaw Studios is the heart of our teams, focusing on developing and improving the features we curate for our client partners.

We're involved in almost every aspect of development you can think of, with a focus on backend development for online game services.

As an Online Services Engineer, you will work with a team of product managers, producers, and engineers, assisting with the development of a suite of tools to help studios across the industry build better backends. You will help drive the technical vision, ensuring our product is delightful to use due to its architecture and robust documentation.

Location

This position has the opportunity to be fully remote, but for candidates local to Troy, NY a hybrid arrangement is possible.

What We Are Looking For:

• Experience supporting online service domains such as social systems, telemetry, and entitlement within a game or interactive media environment.
• Proficiency in AWS-centered development using modern serverless design patterns, including API Gateway, Lambda, Step Functions, and EventBridge.
• Ability to design, build, and maintain backend systems that simplify data flows, enable content delivery, and integrate with both internal and external services.
• Comfortable working on OAuth-based authentication systems, including web view implementations and updates.
• Experience creating internal operational workflows that support creative teams, asset management, and content production pipelines.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience with AWS infrastructure and developing serverless pipelines using tools such as Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, and API Gateway.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK, SAM, or CloudFormation.
• Experience in data modeling, transformation, and migration across distributed systems.
• Proven ability to develop scalable APIs that provide game data and content to downstream clients and tools.
• Experience designing or maintaining OAuth flows, particularly those that involve client-facing authentication and authorization mechanisms.
• Familiarity with content pipeline integrations, including asset storage, metadata management, and creative process tooling.
• Experience in online services within the gaming industry or a similar high-scale, distributed system environment.

Pluses

• Experience with user-facing social features or platform services (e.g., friends, invites, achievements, entitlements).
• Familiarity with telemetry systems and data pipelines for analytics, reporting, or monitoring.
• Experience building tools or services for internal content operations, including localization, asset review, or creative workflow management.
• Background in modern API security standards and best practices.
• Comfortable navigating both greenfield projects and legacy systems with a focus on incremental improvement.

Engineering positions at Wolfjaw are full time (non-contract) W2, salaried roles. The standard base pay range for our Online Services Engineer is between $80,000 - $100,000 USD annually, depending on level of experience and compatibility with our current needs.

This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
