Flatter Than Earth is on an exciting trajectory of growth and evolution as a leading game developer & IP creator. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to partner with our CEO, who also serves as the studio's Creative Director, in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our organization.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about continuous improvement, excellence, and the well-being of team members. They should possess a flexible, forward-thinking, and quality-oriented mindset, with the ability to work at both tactical and strategic levels.

 

Fundamental Info

  • We agree with 99% of Earth's population that Earth is round.
  • Working with team members from around the globe. Ranging from GMT-4 to GMT+3.
  • We are a premium AA+ Indie that has all the elements to become a highly recognized IP. 
  • We are looking for candidates that can start soon.
  • Always Remote, 120-160 hours per month.
  • Remuneration: dependent on knowledge, skill, experience level.

 

Role Overview

The ideal candidate for the COO position will be an accomplished game developer with expertise in operations and logistics. This individual will play a pivotal role in complementing the CEO's creative and product vision, with a primary focus on preserving and enhancing our high-autonomy work culture.

 

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Collaborate with the CEO to articulate and execute the company's strategic vision.
  • Work closely with internal leaders and teams to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

 

Communication & Collaboration

  • Establish and maintain clear communication channels with the CEO.
  • Implement and champion a Remote-First approach to game development, fostering a framework that balances individual flexibility with organizational goals.

 

Logistics & Planning

  • Develop a comprehensive planning and logistics framework for the company.
  • Pave the way for a production methodology that encourages autonomy and accountability while ensuring work is prioritized effectively.

 

Resource Allocation

  • Collaborate with the CEO, project leaders, and HR teams for optimal resource allocation.
  • Own the process for staffing, hiring plans, and long-term growth strategies.

 

Operations & Administration

  • Take ownership of operations and administration functions, including HR, Finance & Production. 
  • Ensure visionary and people-first leadership principles are integrated at all levels of the organization.

 

Releasing

  • Collaborate with the CEO and leaders to execute ambitious release plans while maintaining a no-crunch culture.

 

Relationship Management

  • Assist the CEO in managing key external relationships, stepping in when necessary.
  • Represent the CEO at events, partner meetings, etc., as needed.

 

Leadership

  • Stand alongside the CEO as a humanistic, thoughtful leader.
  • Advocate for the CEO's priorities, nurture the company's culture, and foster trust and loyalty across the organization.

 

Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading projects and teams in a mid to large-sized game developer or publisher.
  • Multiple high-quality video game shipments in their career.
  • Experience collaborating with and managing Finance, HR, & Production teams.
  • Expertise in operations & administration.
  • Clear understanding of resource allocation and planning in a studio environment.
  • Proven ability to implement effective communication processes across teams.

 

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in both independent and publisher-owned game development.
  • Supervisory experience in the release of video games.
  • Experience in creating transmedia IP.
