Floaty is looking for a versatile General Artist to join our mobile game studio. You'll work mainly in 3D, creating characters, environments, and props, and step into animation, UI, and 2D work when a game needs it. The goal is one clear visual style across everything we ship.

3D Art

  • Create high-quality 3D assets for mobile games, including characters, environments, and props
  • Model, texture, and prepare assets for in-game use
  • Set up materials so assets read well at small sizes
  • Keep polycounts and textures within mobile budgets
  • Light and stage scenes for key art and screenshots

Animation

  • Create and implement character and gameplay animations
  • Work with rigs and animation systems in Unity
  • Use animation to improve game feel, responsiveness, and player feedback
  • Render 3D animations to 2D sprites where a game needs it
  • Iterate on animation timing based on gameplay and playtesting

2D Art & UI

  • Create 2D art where a game needs it: icons, UI, illustrations, and store artwork
  • Design clean, readable interfaces that work on small screens
  • Produce icons, buttons, and UI elements that hold up across resolutions
  • Create concept art and mood boards to lock a game's look early

Style & Consistency

  • Maintain one consistent visual style across a game and across the studio
  • Build and maintain style references so new assets match
  • Adapt to different art styles from project to project
  • Review incoming and outsourced art for consistency

Collaboration & Iteration

  • Work closely with the technical artist, game designers, and developers to get art into Unity
  • Create quick mockups and visual prototypes to test ideas early
  • Iterate on assets based on feedback and playtesting
  • Contribute ideas that improve the overall look and feel of the game

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of experience in game art, or a strong relevant portfolio
  • Strong 3D modeling and texturing skills
  • Strong character and gameplay animation skills
  • Comfortable stepping into 2D, UI, and icon work when needed
  • Proficiency with Blender and Unity, or similar tools
  • Good understanding of rigging and animation principles
  • Understanding of optimization for mobile games
  • Strong sense of composition, color, and visual quality
  • Ability to adapt to different visual styles
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and iterate quickly

Nice to have

  • Experience creating real-time VFX in Unity: particles, shaders, and effects
  • Experience with shaders and materials in Unity
  • Experience with character rigging
  • Experience creating marketing and store assets such as icons, screenshots, and feature graphics
  • Illustration or concept art skills
  • Familiarity with Figma, Photoshop, or Illustrator
  • Understanding of lighting and scene presentation
  • Good understanding of player experience and game feel
