As a Senior Frontend Developer, you will be the key contributor of our development team. You'll lead the design and implementation of frontend architecture and systems, ensuring technical excellence and usability. The Senior Frontend Developer will design and build UI systems for both consumer-facing applications, developer tools, and operator-focused tools for large-scale attractions. With your deep expertise, you'll also mentor and support fellow developers, establish best practices, and shape the future of our studio’s applications, tools and platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a technical leader and architect for complex, high-volume web applications and microservices using Go, React, and cloud technologies.
  • Deliver frontend interfaces integrated with backend systems in conjunction with distributed and third-party teams.
  • Partner with UI/UX designers, product managers, and global stakeholders to translate our requirements into technical solutions.
  • Drive end-to-end project execution from conception to production deployment, taking ownership of delivery timelines and ensuring successful project outcomes.
  • Establish technical standards, best practices, and architectural patterns across multiple teams.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and user experience.
  • Work with DevOps team to set up cloud infrastructure solutions and oversee CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a live production environment and identify opportunities for improvements through automation

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline and 7+ years of frontend development experience with 3+ years in an architectural or senior technical leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in microservices architecture patterns, distributed systems, enterprise integration and messaging patterns, and building scalable, highly available APIs following security best practices including OIDC, OAuth, JWT, and enterprise authentication patterns.
  • Experience leading technical teams, driving architectural decisions, and mentoring engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills presenting technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Relevant Experience:

  • Expertise in React, TypeScript, CSS3, and HTML5.
  • Knowledge of design systems and component libraries like Mantine, BlueprintJS, RadixUI, TailwindCSS.
  • Experience with frontend state management (e.g., Redux, Zustand), build tools (e.g., Vite, Webpack, ESBuild), and testing (e.g., Vitest, Playwright).
  • Experience building and scaling complex SPAs, especially with micro-frontends, and UMD / ESM bundlers.
  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs, gRPC, GraphQL, or tRPC.
  • Hands-on experience with version control systems such as GIT and Perforce.
  • Familiarity with IT security best practices such as encryption, certificates, key and credentials management.
  • Extensive cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with containerization and serverless architectures.
  • Solid experience with both SQL databases (Amazon RDS, Aurora, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB).
  • Experience with comprehensive automated, unit and integration testing strategies along with modern development practices.
  • Knowledge of scalable networking technologies such as DNS, subnetting, route tables, NAT, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Knowledge of operating systems and network security fundamentals.
  • Experience with pipeline automation systems such as Jenkins, GitLab and GitHub.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability systems such as Prometheus and Grafana as well as with data visualization tools such as D3.js.
  • Familiarity with orchestration technologies (such as Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with deployment technologies (such as Chef, Ansible, XL Release/Deployment) would be a plus.
  • Strong experience with frontend JavaScript frameworks (Next.js, Nuxt, SvelteKit, Angular).
  • Experience integrating machine learning and AI services with web applications.

Location

While we support remote employment, we’re only considering applicants that are residents of British Columbia and are legally eligible to work in Canada (Citizen or Permanent Resident). Furthermore, candidates must be willing to visit the office in Victoria, BC for on-site meetings from time to time. The ability to occasionally work on-site is also an asset, especially when developing location-based products, where outings with the team may be beneficial.
