Do you live and breathe game design? Do you want to be part of something new and exciting? Ratloop Canada’s next game is an immersive new online game concept set on a planet called Drosera.

As our primary level designer you will be responsible for world building & sculpting at a macro and micro level. You will set up playable spaces and create interesting content in the form of missions and combat encounters. With a wide variety of gameplay to create and a focus on level design and mission objectives, you will play an instrumental part of bringing a new game concept to life through gameplay exploration and implementation!

We are seeking a full-time position, located in Montreal, QC (or remote), someone who is capable of technical problem solving and is comfortable working inside Unreal engine. You must enjoy working autonomously and be highly responsible, as well as strive to deliver high quality results. A willingness to learn and to solve new problems is fundamental to a being a successful team member at Ratloop Canada.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional level design experience;
• Willingness to learn technically and solve creative problems;
• Understanding of gameplay systems (missions, ingredients, combat etc);
• Experience crafting comfortable playable spaces;
• Experience setting up enemy combat and building mission scenarios;
• An online portfolio or reel demonstrating level design and or game design is required;
• Self sufficient when it comes to problem solving, time management and task management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Unreal engine 4/5 experience or other game engine experience a plus;
• Experience with blueprint (UE4/5) a plus;
• Experience with world partition and data layers a plus;
• Experience with open world game design a plus;
• Multiplayer design experience a plus;
• Deep knowledge of gameplay systems, including ranged and melee combat;
• Experience with AI behaviour and enemy archetypes;

Assets

• Proficient technical skills in Unreal Engine 4/5;
• Strong interest in gaming;

Other Skills

• Good analytical and problem-solving abilities;
• Autonomous and resourceful, ability to take initiative;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
