Sketchbook Games are a small independent studio based in Suffolk / Essex with a team who work remotely across the country. We have recently released our debut game, Lost Words: Beyond the Page on Steam, PS4, Xbox One and Switch. It features a story written by renowned games writer Rhianna Pratchett and an orchestral soundtrack by the Ipswich based, BAFTA nominated composer David Housden. We are now starting work on our next project and want your help!
Come and help us with the design and prototyping of our next game, a first-person puzzler with a strong narrative focus. We are currently using Unreal Engine 4, and plan on upgrading to the new Unreal Engine 5 later in the development. We are keen to attract all kinds of candidates, particularly those from underrepresented groups in the games industry (i.e. groups including BAME, women, LGBTQIA+, those from low socio-econonic backgrounds and people with disabilities).
We are looking for someone to help with prototyping in the Unreal Engine and game design. You won’t just be brainstorming ideas but also implementing them, and other mechanics, into the game to try them out and test/ balance features. We would like you to be friendly, autonomous, self-motivated and interested in making games that can make a positive difference to people.
This role will teach you how to collaborate remotely with a team of experienced game developers, use source control, work within a production methodology, iterate on designs and more.
We are looking for someone with good technical and creative abilities as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
You should have some experience of using the Unreal Engine (can be on your own projects/ educational assignments) and formal qualifications are not a requirement.
You will need the ability to work remotely i.e. a computer that runs Unreal (UE4 or above) and an internet connection.
This is a homeworking opportunity with a lot of flexibility in your schedule and how you spread the 25 hours out each week although we will have weekly team calls at a set time (which is currently to be decided and we’ll try to pick a time that works well for everyone).
