Wolfjaw Studios is an engineering-focused video game studio based in Troy, New York, that was founded by a passionate team of developers with decades of experience. Our team has been trusted to build the systems that power some of the most popular modern multiplayer games. In turn, this has enabled publishers to better engage their player base, help drive e-sports to the forefront of media, and further improve core game services to provide a better player experience. About the Role

The Engineering discipline at Wolfjaw Studios is the heart of our teams, focusing on developing and improving the features we curate for our client partners.

We're involved in almost every aspect of development you can think of, with a focus on backend development for online game services.

As a DevOps Engineer, you will work with a team of product managers, producers, and engineers, assisting with the development of a suite of tools to help studios across the industry build better backends. You will help drive the technical vision, ensuring our product is delightful to use due to its architecture and robust documentation.

Location

This position has the opportunity to be fully remote, but for candidates local to Troy, NY a hybrid arrangement is possible.

What We Are Looking For:

• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and partner organizations.
• Comfort working in legacy codebases, with a curiosity-driven approach to exploring and improving unfamiliar systems.
• Experience designing and maintaining backend services, APIs, SDKs, and developer-facing tools with a focus on usability and reliability.
• Attention to detail in building systems that are well-documented, observable, and resilient.
• Proficiency working in cloud-based environments, particularly AWS, with experience in serverless architecture design using services such as Lambda, Step Functions, and DynamoDB.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like AWS CDK or CloudFormation, and a strong understanding of CI/CD workflows.
• Experience instrumenting services with observability tools such as CloudWatch, X-Ray, or OpenTelemetry to support maintainability and operational insight.
• Ability to deliver high-quality software in fast-moving environments, with a focus on iterative improvement and cross-functional alignment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience working with AWS infrastructure and designing serverless architectures using services such as Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, API Gateway, S3, and EventBridge.
• 2+ years of software engineering experience, including experience in backend services, networking, and legacy codebases.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CDK or CloudFormation.
• Experience integrating observability tools such as CloudWatch, X-Ray, and OpenTelemetry.
• Implemented AI/ML pipelines and supported delivery of AI-powered operational tools.
• Built APIs, event-driven workflows, and alerting systems that support autonomous remediation and decision-making.
• Familiar with version control and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline).
• Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and delivery of AI Ops solutions.
• Critical thinker with the ability to adapt to change, communicate impact, and align with evolving priorities.
• Passion for and understanding of the gaming industry.

Pluses

• You have experience working within the games industry.
• You have built or worked with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
• You have experience working in both a startup-like environment and at a larger company.
• Able to effectively communicate problems, solutions, needs, or priorities.

Engineering positions at Wolfjaw are full time (non-contract) W2, salaried roles. The standard base pay range for our Senior DevOps (AWS) Engineer is between $110,000 - $175,000 USD annually, depending on level of experience and compatibility with our current needs.

This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
